This pack of 50 mini muslin’s has been used continuously with Scrumpy since he was born and at six months I still use them daily.
White for faces
Yellow for arsesThey are small hemmed patches of muslin cloth (10cm x 10cm) in white and yellow. I use them instead of cotton wool and wet wipes for moping up baby sick, cleaning faces, accessing hidden chubby neck crevices, cleaning winkies & wiping bum cheeks. They are brilliant, and give me a bit of a smug green glow in knowing that I am in some minute way doing ‘my bit’.I do feel a bit like Guliver in Lilliput when I hang them out to dry after the wash! They cost £5.99 from Mothercare for a pack of 50

This lovely little fella has made my baby bilingual…..that is a bit of an exaggeration, in reality he just giggles non stop at the English, French and Spanish versions of ‘good morning’ and ‘good night’. His favourite by far is ‘buenos dias’, this for some reason drives him crazy!!The star was a present and has been hanging next to scrumpy’s changing mat since he was a few weeks old, I think it was probably the first toy that he smiled at, and now at six months old he can be bought straight out of a crying fit just by the red flashing cheeks of this little fella, its like they hypnotize him! It’s not a bad looking toy either; nice bright primary colours, and it feels quite solid too (scrumps has also found this out when he has donked it on his melon – we keep it attached to something now!).All of the sounds are geared towards either morning or evening, making it a great part of the daily routine.p.s. please excuse the picture…..I swear I am not drunk, scrumps is as always staring at his star!

Press the sun and moon buttons on the Discover and Play Star toy from Baby Einstein and you’ll hear greetings for morning and night in English, Spanish and French. Fun sounds and flashing lights create many activities for you and your baby to enjoy. Mozart’s “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” will play if the star button is nudged and the cheeks of the cheerful face will light up. The rattle bead section allows you to hear crickets and nighttime sounds, while an alarm clock and a rooster crow when the handle is pulled. Introduce baby to day and night with multiple languages and developmental activities. The star points are of various textures with colourful satin ribbons for tactile stimulation. All these actions help promote fine motor skill development while the music and multiple languages promote baby’s language and auditory development. It allows parents easy access to volume control and has a convenient strap that attaches the toy to a cot or pram.

On a Friday I meet up with my fave mummy friends at a wine bar (all rather plush sounding, but in reality it is the only place big enough for us to all get our huge buggies in, and they quite happily let us sit there for about 3 hours having just bought one coffee each!). Anyway… there are about 6 of us that meet up and three of the babes (my scrumps included) have Freddy Fireflies in their grasp pretty much every week. The other three babes seem to spend most of the time looking enviously at the Freddy’s. Two of them have Jacques the peacock, but he just doesnt do it for them.
A friend (with children) bought him for us, and at first sight, I thought, wow, thats an awful lot of stimulation in one toy, my poor babe is gonna be frightened stiff, but he gazed in amasement at him, and it has been the same ever since! I thouroughly recommend this toy, can’t tell you why all the little-un’s love him, but they just do, babies are a wierd bunch, best not to try and delve too deep.
He is made by Lamaze and can be bought at most big toy shops, but listed above are the cheapest. At the moment there are 21 reviews on amazon giving Freddie five stars!

July 27th, 2009UncategorizedTop Gear presenter James May is looking for volunteers to help him build a new house in Surrey – made entirely out of Lego bricks. As part of his BBC series James May’s Toy Stories, he plans to build a two-storey house in the middle of the Denbies Wine Estate, in Dorking and live in it for a weekend.
More than three million Lego bricks have been delivered to the site. May will host a building day next Saturday, when members of the public can help him with the project.
Two months ago James May built a garden out of plasticine
“I’ve got a man working on a flushing Lego lavatory. We think it’s possible. “Things like power supply, sanitation and plumbing coming into the house are as they could be for a real building… everything within my Lego house must as far as possible be Lego,” he said.May said although he already had thousands of Lego bricks, he could not be sure there would be enough. “So if people do have bricks that aren’t being used that they would be happy to donate to a very worthy pioneering Lego cause, then we’ll be happy to take them off your hands.”
The event follows two other successful toy challenges which saw May build what was said to be the world’s first Plasticine garden, which won the People’s Choice Award at the Chelsea Flower Show, and also the world’s largest model plane.
Anyone interested in taking part in the Lego house build, or who has Lego bricks to donate, should e-mail lego@plumpictures.co.uk.

July 22nd, 2009UncategorizedYesterday I asked an M&S employee when they were having their sale, thinking it was common knowledge and I was just behind the curve, and she looked startled and did some kind of allo alllo looking around movement, I actually thought she was going to do the whole ‘listen very carefully I shall say this only once’ routine.
She then told me she had worked there for 5 years and didnt want to get sacked but it starts on today at 9am. So naturally I respected her request to keep it under my hat, and have released the info to the world wide web.

If I could squeeze into monsoon girls clothing I would wear them non stop, they have some of the most beautiful prints around, and the colours are absolutely spot. The only problem is that the prices are really rather high. I think the clothes are probably worth the money, but I just can’t afford to pay out that kind of money on
something that is going to be covered in carrot by the end of the week.
The massive bonus is that their sales are brilliant, more often than not they are 50% off and there is always loads of stock, and the items in the sale are the same items that I have been craving over for the past 6 months, not just a load of toot from the store cupboard.
Embroidered cotton booties, 50% off, were £10, now £5Anabelle blouse, 50% off, was £16, now £8Morris swim shorts, 50% 0ff, were £12, now £6 -

ASOS have only recently branched into children and baby wear, and am I glad they have. Just like the original site, the sales are great, it almost makes buying things from them out of the sale too excruciating as you know that any minute they could knock 50% off.
They stock all of the big names in the baby world, and the biggest plus by far is their Boden range, which is heavily reduced and actually in stock!
Here are just a few of the gems:
This very original cotton Snuglo alphabet sleepsuit is now £5, was £20, with the letters B O Y highlighted in blue, they also have a girls version for the same price.

This beautifully bright fishy number is now £6 was £13, by green baby.
And this lovely red cardi is from Boden at a very reasonable £8, was £22.
Happy shopping!
