£14.99 for 150ml MothercareWhen I was pregnant with scrumpy, the only job (well almost) his daddy had was to rub my tummy and jubblies every night with Bio-oil. You would think that he would relish such a job, but it was like i was asking him for the moon!
To be honest, there is nothing remotely sexy about rubbing a bulging belly with this stuff, it is horrible goop and it gets everywhere. All my pj’s were covered, the white sheets turned a nasty shade of chewing gum grey. The washing machine developed a nice coating and the bath had scum marks that would make Kim and Agi gasp.
Even taking into account all of the above I still think this oil is great, I haven’t got a single stretch mark on my now deflated tummy, I can’t say that I can attribute all of that to the bio-oil, but I know for the next bump I will be getting daddy to lather it on every night all over again.
You are gonna need bucket loads of this stuff to use throughout your pregnancy, and if it is all a load of rubbish, it can’t do any harm, and you will have a lovely moisturised tum all through your 9 months.
Gumpf:
Bio-Oil® is a specialist skincare product that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. Its advanced formulation, which contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, also makes it highly effective for numerous other skin concerns, including aging skin and dehydrated skin.

This monitor is one of my complete favourite buys for scrumpy. At first I thought it was ridiculous and screamed out ‘nervy parent trying to throw away their money’, but using it gives me such reassurance. It really is brilliant to stop that ridiculous paranoia that is ‘oh my goodness, he has been quiet for at least 20 minutes, do you think he is ok, what if he has suffocated?’ It creeps up on all of us at one time or another, even the most laid back and calm are not immune to the odd pang.
In short, this device stopped me going in and checking (inavertently waking up) my new born every hour, just beacuse my baby blues were telling me that something was wrong.
The movement pad is excellent and picks up babe’s breathing, I can’t tell you how many times it has gone off when we have lifted scrumpy out of his bed, but I quite like that, as it continually lets me know that it is working! His breathing translates as a little moving pendulum on the parents handset; which has been glanced at thousands of times now and is a wonderfully reassuring thing to watch.
The second best feature is the superior sound monitor. When everything is calm and quiet, the parent receiver is completely silent, and when babe makes a noise it clicks itself on and lets you hear what is going on in the room. Although, making you jump sometimes, this is a perfect solution, lots of monitors I have seen, give out a constant monitoring background noise from the nursery, this is extremely annoying, unnecessary and really wont let you properly relax.
The next best feature I think is the thermometer, not much more to say on this, except that it will stop you spending money on an additional thermometer for the nursery.
This is an excellent product that I would thoroughly recommend, although it is expensive it more than makes up for it by easing your nerves considerably!
Gumpf

October 1st, 2009find the cheapestAt the moment these are the same price across the board, but do check back as they often go on offer at 2 for £10 which gives an overall saving of £2, which does stack up considering how many the little monkies get through!

Midi – pack of 38 (4-9 kg or 9-20 lbs)

- £3.85 nappies-direct (+ £3.95 p&p)
We have been using these nappies since scrumpy was born, and I think they are a brilliant eco choice. We don’t have any leaks and it is a definate sign of the changing times to find an easy and effective alternative to the 100% non-biodegradable mainstream nappies.
The main difference between these nappies and the Pampers and Huggies of the world are the following:
They are slightly bulkier
They are less smooth
They tend to become larger when saturated
The sticky bits are not quite as stickyBut do not be put off by any of the factors above, they vary only slightly and each aspect is nothing to concern yourself about. It is just a fact that currently, recycled or biodegradable goods are not 100% comparable to their un-green competitors (that’s why recycled loo roll is a bit of a sacrifice compared to Charmin – but who needs 3 layers of cushioned paper; you are whipping your arse with it not sleeping under it!!
So nature babycare nappies get my vote 100%.
Gumpf:
When it comes to your baby’s wellbeing you have a choice. A choice between environmentally friendly nappies based on natural materials that provide superior performance and are gentle on your baby, or your everyday run-of-the-mill nappy so often based on petrochemicals.
That’s why our nappies are: 100% chlorine free, Based on biodegradable materials with a biodegradable back sheet, 100% GM free, and even our packaging is 100% biodegradable.
With all that in mind, we have chosen to work in cooperation with large retail chains to develop and market high-performance hygiene products that care for both consumer and environment. By doing so, we maximize our exposure and allow everyone the opportunity to go green without giving up performance. We also team up with proud members of the Nature Babycare family with our Nature Babycare Ambassador Pogram to reach out to mothers and babies the world over.

The cheapest place by far to buy an Avent ISIS IQ Uno breast pump is at Boots either online or in store. They are currently running an offer to save 20% on selected Philips breast pumps, and you also receive 288 advantage card points, equalling £2.88.
- £72.00 Boots (Free p&p)
- £79.95 Life Pharmacy (free p&p)
- £79.99 Philips (Free p&p)
- £89.99 Chemist Direct (Free p&p)
- £89.99 Argos (Free p&p)
- £94.94 Amazon (£89.99 + £4.95)
- £94.94 Mothercare (£89.99 + £4.95)
I used this pump on and off throughout breast feeding my little-un, it takes a while to get used to (which is the case with all pumps), but do persist because when you get the knack it is easy peasy.
It is an expensive piece of kit, but every mum I know who has been able to breast feed has used a pump at some point. Amongst many other factors they are great for when you are not able to breast feed and are engorged, for when youhave to go back to work and don’t want to stop breast feeding, perfect for enabling you partner to feel the joys of feeding (while you have a kip), and crucially, used before a night out where a drinkie might be involved. I also found it invaluable when trying to stop breast feeding as you are able to give your baby all the nutrients of breast milk, but slowly getting him used to bottle feeding, and away from the comfort of your boob.
Gumpf:
ISIS iQ UNO was created with an iQ, an electronic memory that learns from you and continues your personal pumping rhythm, you get a comfortable and relaxed pumping experience. Patented Let-down Massage Cushion that naturally imitates your baby’s suckling pattern. Silicone diaphragm to provide a guaranteed 100% reliable and consistent vacuum to draw milk from the breast.ISIS iQ has been designed to give you infinitely variable control over speed, vacuum and rhythm for your complete comfort. The patented Let-down Massage Cushion flexes in and out, gently massaging the area around the nipple to help stimulate natural milk flow. Simply press the button on the handle and quietly, effortlessly, the ISIS iQ Breast Pump continues your exact pumping rhythm. To change the rhythm at any time, press the button on the handle to return to manual control.
Two Breast Milk Containers of size 125ml/4oz and 260ml/ 9oz with the pump helps for storage of breast milk in the fridge or freezer. Insert the sealing disc to store breast milk in the fridge or freezer. Simply replace sealing disc with a Philips AVENT Teat for feeding – no need to transfer milk. Philips AVENT Airflex Teats are made from soft pure medical grade silicone. Philips AVENT teat resembles the natural form and feels of breast and allows an easy transition for baby between breast and bottle feed. The Airflex Teat works with baby’s natural feeding rhythm, your baby controls milk flow more like breastfeeding, which can help reduce overeating and spit-up. Use funnel cover to keep your pump sterile and compact for travel. You can also write date on funnel cover for storage.
